Pre-Pointe Assessment

A pre-pointe assessment is a specialised screening conducted by a physiotherapist to determine if a dancer is physically prepared to begin pointe work safely. This evaluation ensures the dancer has the necessary strength, control, and technique to progress without increased risk of injury. It is also a great way to identify areas that require a targeted strength or stretching program.

  • Ballet dancers who are >11 years old

  • Have been attended ballet classes regularly 2-3 hours weekly.

  • If you have been recommended by your dance teacher to be assessed

  • If you have a desire to progress to pointe shoes

Who is it for?

When should you come in?

Whilst you can attend a pre-pointe assessment at any stage, it is best to consider booking your assessment between 8-12 weeks prior to the new term or new uptake in pointe classes. This provides us time to target any areas of weakness found in the assessment. If you are screened and cleared to begin pointe shoes in your initial assessment, then you have ample time to go shopping!
