A message from Sports and Massage Therapist, Lauren Dobson.
I often see people avoiding certain exercises like:
Deadlifts
Overhead movements & exercises
Push-ups & chest exercises
Balance work
Single-leg strength
Side steps
But here’s the truth:
These aren't just “gym exercises”, they’re fundamental movement patterns your body relies on every day.
Avoiding Them Might Be Holding You Back.
Whether it’s due to pain, injury, or fear, skipping these movements entirely could be your biggest setback, or the missing link in your recovery or performance.
Instead of avoiding them, try this approach:
Modify the movement
Break it down into manageable steps
Gradually build strength and confidence
Why These Movements Matter in Real Life:
Deadlifts = Safely picking up your bag or shopping, kids, or anything off the floor
Overhead Work = Reaching up to shelves or putting items away overhead
Push-Ups/Chest Strength = Getting up from the ground or pushing open heavy doors
Balance & Single-Leg Strength = Navigating stairs, uneven surfaces, and preventing falls
Side Steps = Moving quickly and safely in any direction, protecting joints and improving mobility

Let’s Stop Avoiding. Let’s Start Adapting!!
Need help modifying or rebuilding these essential movements?
We are here to help you move better & feel stronger.
