Keep Moving, Keep Strong, Keep Independent.

“I feel so old”

It’s a tale as old as time…

Ageing is a natural part of life, but getting older doesn’t mean we have to stop doing things we enjoy.

Healthy ageing is about maintaining the physical capacity to move well, stay strong, keep your balance and remain confident doing everyday activities.

At Bayside, we are SO lucky to be a multidisciplinary clinic as there isn’t just ONE way to support healthy ageing. Our different practitioners can work together to help you keep doing the things that matter to you.

How our team can help

Looking after your body, keeping strong and staying mobile can make a big difference to how you feel and what you're able to keep doing - whether that's walking the dog, playing with the grandkids, getting back to exercise or simply feeling confident getting through your day.

Our team can help you stay moving, manage those niggles and keep doing the things that matter to you.

Chiropractic - Keep Moving Comfortably

As we get older, it's pretty normal to notice a little more stiffness or the odd ache and pain.

Chiropractic care can help with areas of joint restriction, stiffness and musculoskeletal discomfort, with the aim of helping you move more freely and comfortably.

Our chiropractors look at how your joints, muscles and nervous system are working together, and can also recommend exercises and simple strategies to help you manage pain and keep moving.

It's not just about treating a sore joint. It's about helping you move well and feel confident doing the things you enjoy.

Physiotherapy - Stay Strong, Mobile & Confident

Staying strong and steady on your feet becomes even more important as we get older.

Our physiotherapists can assess your strength, balance, mobility, walking and overall movement, then work with you to put together a plan that suits you and your goals.

Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing an ongoing condition or simply want to stay strong and active, physiotherapy can help.

Podiatry - Keep Moving From the Ground Up

Every step starts with your feet!

Foot pain, changes in the way you walk, balance concerns or shoes that aren't quite right can all make staying active harder than it needs to be.

Our podiatrists can help with foot and toenail concerns, assess your feet and lower limbs, provide footwear advice and look at anything that may be affecting the way you move.

The aim is to move with confidence and stay independent for as long as possible.

Exercise Physiology - Build Strength & Fitness

You don't have to be fit to start exercising.

In fact, that's exactly why our exercise physiologist is here.

Our EP can help you build an exercise program around where you're at now, taking into account your health, lifestyle and goals. We also offer group classes to help you stay motivated and connected within the community.

Regular exercise can help you maintain strength, balance, mobility, cardiovascular fitness and the ability to do everyday things with confidence.

The best part? You don't have to do it all at once. We start where you are and build from there.

Myotherapy - Keep Your Muscles Moving Well

Our muscles do a lot of work every day - from getting out of a chair to exercising, gardening or simply getting through a busy day.

Muscle tension and stiffness can sometimes get in the way and make movement less comfortable.

Myotherapy can help assess and manage muscular and soft-tissue concerns and can work really well alongside exercise, rehabilitation and other treatments.

The goal is to help you feel more comfortable in your body and make it easier to keep doing the things you enjoy.

Remedial Massage - Feel Better, Move Better

Sometimes your body just needs a little extra attention.

Remedial massage can help with muscular tension and soft-tissue discomfort and can be a great addition to an exercise or rehabilitation program.

Whether you're dealing with everyday tightness, recovering after exercise or simply want to look after your body, remedial massage can help you feel more comfortable and ready to move.

Small exercises that make a big difference

You don't need complicated equipment or a gym to start working on some of the physical qualities that help us stay independent.

1. Sit-to-stand

A simple way to work on leg strength, particularly the muscles we use every day to get up from a chair.

• Sit towards the front of a sturdy chair.

• Place your feet approximately hip-width apart.

• Lean forward slightly and stand up.

• Slowly lower yourself back down.

• Repeat 5–10 times, or as comfortable.

Tip: Use your hands on the chair or armrests for support if needed.

2. Supported single-leg balance

Balance is an important part of staying confident on your feet.

• Stand beside a sturdy bench, kitchen counter or other stable support.

• Hold on with one or both hands.

• Slowly lift one foot from the floor.

• Hold for 10–20 seconds.

• Swap sides.

• Repeat 2–3 times per side.

Safety first: Stay close to your support and don't practise balance exercises somewhere you could fall onto a hard or dangerous surface.

3. Heel raises

Strong calf muscles help with walking, stairs and everyday movement.

• Stand behind a sturdy chair or at a kitchen bench.

• Hold on for support.

• Slowly rise onto your toes.

• Lower your heels with control.

• Repeat 8–15 times.

Think beyond exercise…

Healthy ageing isn't just about doing a few exercises.

It's also about continuing to participate.

Keep walking.

Keep socialising.

Keep doing the activities you enjoy.

Keep challenging your body appropriately.

Keep looking after your feet.

Keep addressing problems rather than simply accepting them as "part of getting older."

And most importantly, start where you are.

You don't need to be strong, flexible or fit before you begin. Your program can be adapted to your current abilities and progressed over time.

Your health doesn't have to be managed by just one practitioner.

One of the benefits of a multidisciplinary clinic is that your different practitioners can work towards the same goal from different perspectives.

Whether your goal is to walk the dog, play with the grandchildren, get back to golf, travel, garden, manage the stairs or simply stay independent, our team can help you identify what is getting in the way and work with you to keep moving.

Healthy ageing isn't about stopping the clock. It's about making the most of the years ahead.

From recovery to performance, we’re here to keep you moving.

Where has the year gone?!

Hello October! Is it just us, or does October feel like the month where the year suddenly starts flying? Christmas is just around the corner! The days are getting longer, the weather is warming up and there's that little bit of extra motivation to get outside and start doing more.

It's also a good reminder that you don't need to make huge changes to look after yourself. A walk around the block, getting back into the garden, doing a few exercises, drinking a bit more water or finally dealing with that niggly pain you've been putting off can all be a great place to start.

So, what are you looking forward to this spring? 🌷

Meet Dr Jarrod Ruchel

Meet Dr Jarrod Ruchel - Our Newest addition to the Chiropractic team!

We’re very excited to welcome Jarrod to the team!

Jarrod graduated from Murdoch University in Perth in 2010 with First Class Merit Honours and has spent the years since building a strong background in musculoskeletal health and chiropractic care.

He has a particular interest in helping people understand what’s going on with their body, accurately diagnosing musculoskeletal problems and finding practical ways to help people move and feel better.

We really like Jarrod’s approach to care. He takes the time to understand each person, what they’re experiencing and, most importantly, what they want to get back to doing.

That might be getting back to sport or exercise, managing an ongoing niggle, improving how you move, or simply being able to enjoy a walk along the beach without something holding you back.

Jarrod works with people of all ages and abilities and takes an evidence-based approach to care, combining clinical experience with the latest research.

So, if you haven't met Jarrod yet, make sure you say hello next time you're in the clinic!

Get to know Jarrod…

Coffee or tea?

Earl grey tea is my go to, but do enjoy the odd coffee.

Favourite thing to do on a day off?

Kindergym or running in the park with my son Harrison. Sometimes the odd Lego build together.

Favourite sport or type of exercise?

Recently migrated to stationary bike. I like running but suck out loud at it.

Favourite meal?

Sushi - flame grilled salmon aburi

What’s always on your playlist?

Low Roar - Chill Icelandic vibes

What made you want to become a chiropractor?

Forest for the trees event. I have always seen a chiropractor for almost everything my whole life. Studying engineering wasn't quite hitting the spot until my chiropractor said 'just be a chiropractor, you'd be good at it'.

Lightbulb!

What's something patients would be surprised to know about you?

I make or fix stuff. I can use a mill, lathe or sewing machine as good as the other.
